The tests were performed in February 2021, with the Jetstream installed and running for 4 days In both instances 1000 litres (1m³) of air was directed over Tryptic Soy Agar plates using a Trio-bass Mini air sampling system. Once exposed the plates were incubated for 4 days at 36° C. Analysis of the results took the form of counting the number of Viable Colony Forming Units (VCFU).

The results showed that treatment with the Jetstream UVC resulted in a reduction of in excess of 80% in VCFU.

Air can play a central role as a reservoir for micro-organisms, these micro-organisms in turn act as a reservoir for viruses. In the current Coronavirus pandemic, we need now to be vigilant in the office and open building areas to the levels of microbial contamination and a special focus needs to be placed on microbial air surveillance.

Through air sampling, it is possible to evaluate microbial contamination in environments that can create higher risks of infection. It has been long known that “sick building syndrome” exists, further, this can have detrimental effects on the building occupants. We at Blulogic have employed tried and tested science to evaluate this risk level and to determine if a building is Coronavirus safe for occupants.

To perform this evaluation locations are identified during the initial building survey as being at particularly high risk, these become the initial test sites. To perform these tests 500L of air is drawn over Tryptic Soy Agar plates using a specialised air sampling unit, these plates are then incubated at 36 ± 1°C for 48 h in our own laboratory after which the number of colony forming units growing on the agar plate surfaces are counted. These colony forming units are grown from the microbes present in the ambient air and therefore act as indicators of the air quality. These tests would be performed at numerous locations on individual building floors and in areas identified as being particularly high risk zones.

Re-testing can be performed at pre-determined time intervals, or prior to major pre-planned maintenance of HVAC equipment, then re-tested following maintenance to determine the effectiveness of the maintenance procedures.
